All About the Jones Lab!

Engineering. Discovery. Innovation.

In the Jones Lab, we specialize in the use of microbiology, molecular genetics, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology to facilitate our pursuit of novel biosynthetic pathways to produce high-value compounds of pharmaceutical interest. Recently, psychoactive compounds such as psilocybin, MDMA, and DMT have gained attention as effective compounds in treating a range of mental illnesses, including: anxiety, depression, addiction, and PTSD. As clinical research continues and results corroborate the effectiveness of psychedelic medicines, production methods for these compounds will need to meet the growing demand for these drugs for use in pre-clinical and clinical studies. Through our dedication to engineering, science, ingenuity, and creativity, we are working to invent new ways to meet this increasing demand for psychedelics using a novel microbial-based biosynthesis approach. As a lab committed to scientific discovery, we are excited to continue exploring novel methods to produce the next generation of mental health treatments. The Jones Lab is proud to be comprised of a diverse team of researchers, including undergraduate and graduate students, as well as staff members from widespread research backgrounds. Through this diversity, we are able to cultivate a unique team environment that emphasizes teaching, learning, personal growth, and respect for all.
